The Big Stick

Archie and Pippa came with me to the little park, and we went to look at the river. There are two old ice ponds there, one of which is about neck deep on dogs. Archie loves water and so jumped straight in the muddy stagnant gook without thinking twice about it. This is when he discovered the big stick. It was nearly three times as long as he was and extremely heavy, although this was not going to stop him dragging it 40 feet to try and then eat it.

Pippa had so far looked on the spectacle bemusedly. Once stick eating was the order of the day however, she took the other end of the stick/ tree and began to chow down. Archie, being quite possessive of his sticks was having none of it and let out a warning growl. Pippa, who saw this as the beginning of a new fun game, just couldn't have cared less and carried on wholeheartedly. Then began a tug of war of David and Goliath proportions. Eventually Pippa gave in, tossing a "bovvered?" shrug in Archie's direction.

Archie then tried to proudly tug the gargantuan stick towards me to try and throw for him. I couldn't have thrown it if I'd wanted to!! Archie looked at me with his big sad pleading eyes. A stand off took place then. Neither of us would back down.

Sadly for Archie, I'm the boss. so the big stick was left behind for another day. He soon got over it. Five minutes later he found an old rotting tennis ball, stick forgotten!!
